Within the next few years, Meliá Hotels will open 57 new hotels with 14,533 rooms around the world.

We check the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION database to find out where the group is opening its properties and which regions they are focusing on.

Ambitious plans for 2020

According to the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION online database, 57 hotel projects are currently in Meliá Hotels International’s pipeline:

Of Meliá’s 57 openings, 23 are scheduled for 2020 and will add 6,743 rooms to the group’s portfolio before the year is out. 2021 will see another 14 openings and 3,259 new rooms. 8 launches are in the pipeline for 2022 and another 12 are planned for 2023 and beyond.

The brand will stay true to its focus on upscale hotels with 48of its new properties falling into the 4-star segment. The remaining 9 openings will be 5-star hotels in the luxury category.

Top growth regions for Meliá Hotels

According to the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION database, Asia Pacific will be Meliá’s focus in the coming years. As of now, 28 projects and 6,610 rooms are in the pipeline there.

Europe follows in second place with 13 openings and 3,503 new rooms. Africa comes in third with 6 planned launches and 1,960 rooms. North America, the Middle East and South America will see 4, 4 and 2 hotels open respectively.

When looking at the group’s top national growth markets, the trend outlined above continues. 3 of the top 5 countries with the most openings are in Asia, namely Vietnam (8), Thailand (5) and China (5). Cape Verde (5) and Malaysia (5) round out the top 5.

Meliá’s fastest-growing hotel brands

The group’s signature Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand has a pipeline of 24 projects and 9,410 rooms, making it by far the most quickly expanding brand.

Innside by Meliá comes in second with 12 properties followed by Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts with 5. ME by Meliá will get 3 new hotels while Sol Hotels & Resorts and Paradisus Resorts get 2 and 1 each.

Noteworthy new Meliá hotel projects

The 987-room Meliá Sunny Beach in Bulgaria is the largest property currently in the company’s pipeline and marks Meliá’s seventh hotel in the country. Specifically geared towards leisure guests, the hotel offers a variety of leisure facilities including several pools, six restaurants and an expansive wellness area. Guests wishing to explore the region can head to the nearby town of Nessebar and visit the surrounding area.

The 835-room Meliá White Sands Hotel & Spa will open in Cape Verde in late 2020. There will be both family and adult-only sections, so all guests can enjoy their stay to the fullest. A wet bar and poolside restaurant serve local and international fare in a relaxed atmosphere while several more dining venues in the hotel’s main building cater to a wide range of culinary desires.

By mid-2020 the Meliá Cam Ranh Bay will welcome guests on the south-eastern shore of Vietnam. At the resort, guests can enjoy leisurely days by the beach, enjoy a dip in their villa’s private pool, take in the views from the expansive infinity pool or visit the signature YHI Spa. The romantically inclined will love the on-site wedding chapel with direct beach access.
