The cost of eating out at South Africa’s top five restaurants
If you want the best in the business you often have to fork out for the privilege, and that’s true when it comes to the top restaurants in the country, according to Nigeria Today, which has been pricing up the cost of eating out in South Africa.
But what it revealed is that top cuisine is available in South Africa at very reasonable prices compared with the rest of the world.
Nireia Today checked prices at the top five restaurants in the country’s Eat Out Awards announced this week and The Test Kichen, in Woodstock, Cape Town, came out at number one costing R2,650 ($187) per person.
It said: “A meal at The Test Kitchen is going to set you back a prettypenny – with the cheapest option being the vegetarian meal set at R1,200, goingall the way up to the set menu with an “iconic” wine pairing at R2,650 perperson.
“The experience include two main menus (light room and dark room),with a pescetarian and vegetarian option. You can expect thingslike Vanilla Peach and rose scented foie gras, Pan seared duckbreast, and Chamomile ice cream – all presented in elegant style”
Second was La Colombe in Constantina, Cape Town, which “offers a full gourmand dinner menu at R1,090 ($77), going up to R1,880 ($132)for the menu with a wine pairing.
“A typical dinner menu includes such items such as tuna, oysters, salmon and lamb.The cheapest option is a reduced vegetarian lunch, which costs R540 (just $38)”.
“This place was definitely the best one we have visited, located at the vineyard, it is such beautiful drive even up to the restaurant.,” said Rurina from New York, on Trip Advisor.
At number three was The Restaurant at Waterkloof, Somerset West, Western Cape, where diners could easily R1,350 ($95) followed by The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Francais Franschhoek, Western Cape, R1,495 ($105).
Fifth on the Nigeria Today list was the the Restaurant Mosaic at the Orient, Pretoria, Gauteng, where diners could pay between R850 and R1,935 ($136).
“It offers a grand degustation and a market degustation – both of which come with an option for a wine pairing. The former is the full experience at R1,250 per person (with wine pairing taking it up to R1,935) – while the latter starts at R850, going up to R1,400 with a wine pairing.”
